Being a Mold Breaker: Female Fighter Pilot & Entrepreneur, Lt Col Rebecca Ohm

After listening to this episode, you might just be inspired to create the life you want even when hearing authority tell you No about who you can be. Lt Col Rebecca A. Ohm (“Becky”) will inspire you to stand toe-to-toe of your fear and betting on yourself anyways. She sheds light on her inner saboteur being the only female fighter pilot while up in the sky in combat to down on the ground in the barracks.

Col Ohm is a retired F-16 Fighter Pilot, Instructor Pilot and commander from the 180th Fighter Wing in Swanton, OH. She is also the owner of one the Toledo areas finest coffee shops.

Col Ohm began her career at the 180th Fighter Wing in January 1993 where she was assigned to the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron as a flight line crew chief. In 1994, she was selected for a pilot slot at the 180th Fighter Wing, becoming the first (and still only) female fighter pilot at the 180th Fighter Wing and within the Ohio Air National Guard. She also served as a Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Commander, as well as the Deputy Group Commander. Col Ohm has been on several combat deployments and received the Air Medal in support of Operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch and Iraqi Freedom. She also received the Meritorious service medal during her time at the 180th Fighter Wing.

Col Ohm has combined her love of flying with an entrepreneurial spirit and in 2007 opened an aviation themed coffee shop with her husband John in Perrysburg, Ohio. She has been the main force behind the success of her business, "The Flying Joe", acting as the chief financial officer, public relations officer, marketing director, and bookkeeper.

Col Ohm is a 1995 graduate of Bowling Green State University. She attended Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training in Columbus, Mississippi where she met her husband, John. As a Drill Status Guardsman, Col Ohm has been able to balance her roles as a commander, pilot, business owner and her most important role as mother of three; Zachary, Olivia and Emily.
